Dr. Karen Hamann ist Umwelt- und Sozialpsychologin und beschäftigte sich in ihrer Promotion mit psychologischem Empowerment im Umweltschutz. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte liegen in den Bereichen der Wirksamkeitsüberzeugung, kollektiven Aktionen, sozialen Normen, positiven Emotionen, Visionen und der bürgergetriebenen Energiewende.

Um das psychologische Wissen denjenigen, die in der Praxis Umwelt- und Klimaschutz betreiben, zur Verfügung zu stellen, gründete sie mit einem Kollektiv aus Umweltpsycholog*innen den Verein Wandelwerk e.V. In Verbindung damit erschienen zwei Publikationen zum privaten Klimaschutz („Psychologie im Umweltschutz – Handbuch zur Förderung nachhaltigen Handelns“, oekom, 2016) und zu kollektivem Klimaschutz („Klimabewegt – die Psychologie von Klimaprotest und Engagement“, oekom, 2024), die beide im Open Access verfügbar sind.
